All classes are held at the Fiber Arts Bloomington Studio (FABlab!), 611 W 11th St, Bloomington IN. We are able to hold most classes outdoors. For indoor classes, we can socially distance for health and safety. Masks are required for all classes. Introduction to Natural Dyes
We’ll cover protein fibers (wool & silk), and plant fibers (cotton). Students will go home with natural dye samples, a bandana they dye themselves, and the knowledge to start experimenting with the plants in and around their own homes.

Natural Dyes 2 - All About Mordants!
Learn how to get multiple colors from a single natural dye pot!
In this full day workshop, we will:
- review preparing a dye bath.
- review traditional pre-mordanting with alum.
- explore after-dye mordants to shift color.
- thicken mordants to paint designs that will give you multiple colors from one dye bath!
You will leave the class with a handout describing all processes, samples of each process, and a wearable piece of fiber art handmade by you!
Students must have either attended Introduction to Natural Dyes or have previous experience with natural dyeing.

Introduction to Organic Indigo Vats
Take home your own organic indigo vat in a 5-gallon bucket!
This workshop will get you acquainted with the organic indigo vat. We will cover:
how to make a fructose vat.
some simple shibori techniques.
trouble-shooting your vat.
caring and feeding of your vat.
After the workshop, your vat could last you months, if properly cared for!

Clay Resist and Indigo
Students will learn to make patterns using stamps, brushes, stencils and clay resist. This is one of the most accessible methods of stenciled and stamped resists for indigo dyeing. Students will leave with samples of each method of application and a wearable piece that you create during class!

Rug Hooking - 6 Week Introduction
Learn the Basics and Create a Sampler Pillow!
6 weekly sessions for 3 hours
In this six week course students will hook a sampler pillow that includes five basic skills that every hooker should know, from turning a corner to how to hook a circle on a grid and how to sculpt with wool. Between classes, students will practice their newly acquired skills by filling in that portion of the design.
The final week we will turn the hooked pieces into a pillow. Students will have the option of other finishing methods if a pillow is not their preference.

All tools will be provided on loan to students for the duration of the class - no need to invest in new equipment... yet! A materials fee of $65 will be due the first day of class. This covers the cost of the pattern, wool, and finishing materials.
Intro to Rug Hooking - Mug Rugs
Using 100% wool strips and linen backing, students will hook a simple design that will teach them how to hook and finish a small coaster.
